The Arc of Learning
Premises
The teacher is a transformation agent with previous knowledge and repertory.
Always have in mind that each grade level has its own context.
Consider that certain theoretical aspects are adapted for each grade level.
Make sure that all suggestions in the Guide are clearly age and grade appropriate.
Make sure that the whole Guide is connected to all of its chapters, following a continuum learning line of thought. The FAQ session is connected to a specific Unit and therefore linked to it.
We are talking to the Teacher. This guide is for the teacher. E.G.: “you know your kids more than everybody so you can choose…”
Have in mind that kids can surprise us and we should never doubt they cannot do something.
“POST ITs” are reminders throughout the guide to remind teachers that part of the guide is very important. For example: remind teachers to: take pictures frequently, give positive feedback to their students when relevant and remind teachers to assess weekly etc.
Utilize the same language PV teachers have been using to tailor the guidebook to the practice we have developed. Instead of PBL, we call it the Arc of Learning. The phases are the same and we utilize a scorecard to track student growth.
